While most of you are busy enjoying your turkey dinner, I thought I would slip this quick staff photo of our North American office, along with our best wishes for the Holiday Season.

We really enjoy what we do at Kaloo and we hope you do as well.
In the hectic weeks ahead, please take the time say a kind word to those around you (and to curse out those idiots who stop and have a conversation right at the bottom of the escalator…just kidding).
Its amazing what a smile can accomplish.

With all the bad news in the media these days I was stunned to learn that a great deal of our Kaloo accounts are doing well. What’s up with that? Don’t they watch the news? How dare they be doing well!
Cable News came into existence in 1985. They run on average 15 hours of live daily news with the remaining 9 hours of reply. One thing they have learned over the past 20 years is this: Bad News is more interesting than Good News. Bad News sells. It’s more profitable to talk about Bad News than Good News.
War, corruption, terror, disasters, is great for their bottom line. Sure, throw in the odd “Puppy Story” but other than that, be sure to hype the negativity. The Consumer confidence index is based on regular survey of just 5,000 households. The incessant barrage of depression in the media cannot help but influence the nationwide mood.
If you have recently lost you job, then its understandable to feel this way, but the majority of people will not be left homeless and the sky is not falling.
Yes, we must be careful and focus on value and make good decisions, but we also have a duty to remain positive, have faith and appreciate what we all have in the here and now. Make a point to inspire those around you and not give in to the naysayers. Yes, we can.

Some say Pride is a sin. If that’s the case then its a Sin that’s In!
One of the best elements I like about Kaloo is the ability to customize your kaloo display to make it your own. In the coming weeks I will share some retail displays we really like, plus some “Before & After” shots to better illustrate what I’m constantly babbling on about.

I group Pride and Excitment together. Take for example our new showroom. We are all very proud of the layout. It truely brings out (in our biased minds) the true potential of Kaloo.
Retailers that are really excited about their Kaloo and their display do very very well. I sincerely believe that just holding Kaloo and experiencing the details, softness & packaging firsthand will inspire you to create your own unique Kaloo experience. Its my job to make you aware of all the tools Kaloo make available to you as well as to provide guidance.
Enjoy!

Sorry about the week long silience, but I had to speak up and put an end to a nasty rumour that I’m on vacation. Yeah, like I’d fly south with the family in November and risk the wrath of the Kaloo nation. Hold on a sec… ”Kids stop splashing! You’re getting water on Daddy’s laptop! What? Another Pina Colada? Sure why not!” (note to self..blogging & pinapple juice don’t mix) Ok, where were we?

Its not having what you want, its wanting what you’ve got…
Thanks Sheryl, I could not have said it better myself. While the economic news is not exactly inspiring, it should not stop retailers from getting the most of their current inventory (Kaloo or otherwise).
People that enter your store are looking to meet a need, and its up to you the retailer to discover that need and ensure those needs are met.

Your products display must look cared for, because if your shelves look neglected, then the chances your customers will be motivated to buy will be almost nil.
In contrast a full display or partially full arrangement accented with flowers or other personal touches, create warmth and positive energy. People feel inspired and happy, and that should be the main objective for all retailers (making a profit is just a side benefits of being at your best).
Kaloo has several merchandisers available to retailers (we even had one mother who wanted one for her home). We also offer free consulting to help optimize your current display (call us toll free 1 877 957 3088, its true!). In reality, quite often a small fill-in order is needed to complete the presentation, but in several cases a simple rearrangement can refresh & energize you Kaloo section.

Everyone is holding their breath for the next 36 hours.

Both Retailers & Consumers alike are looking to feel better about the economy and to focus on the upcoming Holiday Celebrations. This monumental election has had many things on hold and the grande finale is now at hand.
So after you have performed your civic duty & are waiting for the outcome, why not pass the time learning about how Kaloo gets Kaloo to you?
Well, here’s your chance! Read on:

Kaloo typically rides shotgun on most shipments to ensure over-zealot fans of Kaloo do not hijack our shipments (its happened before);

Having safely arriving at our North American warehouse (yes we have our own “K for Kaloo” Line of containers) the goods are carefully unloaded.

Sometimes Kaloo can be a little too quick in reverse and “Wally, our Warehouse Guy” almost always pays the price. Luckily he is used to it and was back on the job later that day.

At times I think its overkill on the lengths we go to to keep our Kaloo products safe until they get to you, and perhaps they could have squeezed a few more Kaloo’s in there, but I guess you can’t argue with success.
So I hope you have enjoyed learning a little about Kaloo’s logistics and how we stop at nothing in order to get Kaloo to you in the safest and most efficient way possible.

We just returned from a recent visit to our Canadian Furniture Factory just outside of Montreal. Its always interesting to see the various stages of production and of course the finished product.
I find the best part of my job here at Kaloo (apart from finding lost Doudous replacements for frantic parents) is the creation of quality. I strongly recommend reading “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance”, as the author explores the Metaphysics of Quality.
Whoa! Ok…. I’m back. I better ease off the Halloween candy and save some for the kids. (Remind me one day to share a childhood story of when my mother decided to hand out apples instead of candy one year….every 10 year old’s nightmare come true)
